AI and Predictions for the Future

Artificial_Intelligence

When Amazon launched Alexa or when Google acquired Deepmind the use cases that are emerging today would have been unthought of by many. Today AI and bots are redefining how users engage with devices. The near real-time translation of languages, the capability of Alexa to decipher the millions of accents all have an Machine Learning underpinning. What we now take for granted in technology was once a dream, an impossibility in the minds of many. With new advancements emerging each day, technology has come a long way. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is touted as the next big thing, an inevitable game changer. There is more investment going into AI and voice assistance today than ever. The technology rests on deep learning and pattern recognition.

According to some experts, a future where we’ll rely on bots for travel planning, task management, and even our daily trips to work (think self-driving cars) is not too far away. Amazon's Alexa, Microsoft Cortana and Apple's Siri have inspired confidence in many. While regular interaction with these voice assistants may seem a bit unnatural, with the improvement in technology, it will evolve into a much more intuitive way to access services than the current tapping on screens we are used to.

It will get better

As the field attracts increased investment and generates interest, vast improvements in the quality of speech, voice, video, and image recognition will result. Cheap and ubiquitous sensors and cameras will provide ever-growing streams of data for processing in real-time. Paired with cheap and accessible power and storage, data processing for AI will become cost-effective and efficient. We will then see increased adoption by several industries - healthcare, agriculture, education et al.

Greater autonomy in systems
Already, we are seeing increased autonomy in the world. When was the last time you called customer support and got connected to an actual person? Just like most of a flight’s journey is covered on auto pilot, we will see a major shift from human-run devices to autonomous decision making systems, not just limited to transportation. Self-driving cars and drones are not a far-fetched possibility.

Personal assistance will become more personalized
Expect Siri or Google Assistant to know your preferences to the t - beverages you like, the time you sleep, where you are traveling for the next meeting - as they become more personalized. With each update, personal assistants will become better at understanding the context of our requests, allowing them to cater to an even wider range of capabilities. Eventually, intelligent context-reactive visual interfaces will take over, seamlessly redefining conversational interactions.

Artificial-Intelligence-1

It will become more widely accepted by companies
AI is what automobiles or computer science was 30 years ago. With time, it will become a normal not only for companies but a quotidian sight for personal use too. AIs will be what computers are today - omnipresent. It will be widely adopted by enterprises, allowing them to extract knowledge from all the generated data, be it structured or otherwise. Automated fleet management, candidate resume screening, inventory management are some ways AI will slowly displace humans in decision making.

Notifications will be key to voice
Mobile push notifications are today the de facto feature and voice notifications will take the same route. Developers will nudge users to proactively use voice apps; Amazon has added a notifications capability (currently in beta). Mobile notifications and individual notifications will be ‘voice-ified’– prompting for Uber ratings, task reminders, message notifications. Moreover, marketers doing notifications for email, SMS, in app could connect their messaging systems to voice apps, reaching customers through voice notifications.

The way ahead
When moving from desktop-based computing to mobile, corporations had to undertake a significant shift, imagining things like move from point and scroll to pinch and swipe interface, AI will take this interaction to a different level, now the computing device will n loner be the restricted to a computing machine, it will be restricted only by imagination. The voice activated network connected device can be your input device and the Amazon Lex service in conjunction with EC2 instance will be your computing platform.

In conclusion, your dependency on machines will grow as will their development for a more personalized and context-aware system. Expect to soon incorporate AI and voice assistance in your everyday life. With advancements, they may develop into more than just an instinctive way to access services instead of tapping on the screen.
